About Me

Choosing a creative coach is a big thing. Really, it's a little like selecting a therapist – you need to be sure you're working with someone who will communicate and hold space in a style that gives you what you need. You also need to make sure they have the industry experience necessary to be advising you.

Having a look at my socials, in particular my time hosting the Indie Writers Club podcast (which can be found on YouTube) and my Substack (Cara Clare) will give you a good idea of the energy and compassion I bring to a session.

But for stats and creditials...

Since I started writing in 2016 I have published forty novels and ten novellas across multiple genres.

I've been a book coach, an editor, a ghostwriter, and have sold over a quarter of a million copies of my bestselling romance series.

I've worked in traditional publishing, I have been traditionally published, and I've also self-published.

I was long-listed for the Mslexia Children's Novel Competition and my books have amassed over
10,000 reviews with a 4.2* or higher average on Amazon.

I have hit multiple bestseller lists and my flagship series has a 'Best of Booktok' label on Amazon.com.

I also co-hosted the Indie Writers Club podcast for 74 episodes.

I have navigated and sustained a creative career through periods of chronic illness, divorce, burn out, and a pandemic. Because of this, I pride myself on my ability to see both story and strategy, and to give compassionate and enthusiastic advice.

Services

My coaching sessions are limited to three per week. All are 90 minutes and all cost £222. My aim is that one session will allow you to walk away feeling reinvigorated and with solutions and suggestions to put into place going forward.

Often, all we need is some dedicated time with someone to listen to us, bounce ideas back, and provide a fresh perspective in a calm, non-judgemental space.

Story Session

A 90-minute story session where you'll have my undivided attention and can ask anything and everything you need to.,

You might be at the plotting stage of writing your novel or you might be mid-way through drafting and have hit a plot hole. Whatever problem, challenge, block, or niggle you're experiencing with your story, I can help you navigate it.

I'll ask for a brief outline of what you'd like to talk about before the session, so we can make sure we maximise the time you've paid for. If you don't know what you need, you just know the story isn't flowing, that's okay. We can unpick it and figure it out together.

Whenever we talk story, I'll also be thinking about your end goal, target readership, and commercial viability of the story but how much we focus on that is entirely up to you.

Strategy Session

A 90-minute strategy session where you'll have my undivided attention and can ask anything and everything you need to.,

You might just be starting out on your publishing journey and trying to decide whether to go trad, indie, or hybrid. You might be several books in and wondering if you should pivot. You might have decided to go indie but be unsure whether you've got the right strategy in place to maximise success.

In Clifton Strengths speak, I'm number one Strategy - I see solutions and will help you find yours, whatever challenge your facing.

I'll ask for some brief info before our session in order to maximise the time you've paid for. My aim is that one session should be enough to answer all your questions, reinvigorate you, and give you a solid plan moving forward.

Burn Out Session

These sessions are a little different. Having experienced burn out myself, and spent a long time figuring out how to navigate it, while also living with a chronic pain condition, I know how hard it is to manage creative fatigue on your own.

In this 90 minute session, I'll hold space for you to talk about how you're feeling and we will also spend some time – if you're comfortable – calming your nervous system with a brief creative meditation.

This session is about slowing things down, allowing you to feel and say whatever you need to, and giving gentle tools and advice for how you can support yourself while you recover.
